UV Air Sterilisation
19th March 2021
This year we became the first hair clinic in the UK to introduce two state-of-the-art UV air sterilisers, in a bid to keep both our patients and staff safe from coronavirus and stave off any potential infections.
The equipment we have on-site are two FagronLab™ UV-C Air Sterilisers, which are designed to disinfect the air in enclosed spaces by eliminating viruses and bacteria spread through small particles called aerosols.
How does it work?
The FagronLab™ UV-C Air Sterilisers are equipped with two large suction vents that draw in air particles including any contaminants into their core.
Inside the core, the air is trapped and decontaminated by 5 double high-intensity UV-C germicide lamps. The clean air then passes through the conductor vent and back into the environment, which is safe for you to breathe.
What is UV-C?
UV-C light has the smallest wavelength of all UV types. This makes it safe for humans, but lethal for microorganisms.
By drawing the air into its core, the FagronLab™ UV-C Air Steriliser will expose viruses and bacteria carried in the air to UV-C light. This removes any harmful contaminants, before returning the air safely to the environment.
What does the research say?
The killing of microorganisms by UV-C light (wavelength 253.7nm) has been known for more than 20 years and is scientifically proven. Current studies have independently shown the effectiveness of UV-C light:
- Rapid and complete inactivation of SARS-CoV-2-by ultraviolet-C irradiation:
Boston University School of Medicine
- Rapid and efficient inactivation of surface dried SARS-CoV-2 by UV-C irradiation:
Universitätsklinikum Tübingen
- UV-C radiation is highly effective in inactivating and inhibiting SARS-CoV-2 replication:
University of Milan and INAF
Are UV air sterilisers effective against COVID-19 (SARs-CoV-2)?
Yes, the FagronLab™ UV-C Air Steriliser’s we use deactivate airborne SARs-CoV-2 virus particles using UV-C light. More information on the science behind UV-C light and its effects on COVID-19.
